Prepare the lecture

Create a class in the “Lecture” format: by default, the teacher controls the notebook, code runs, files and the shared screen. Upload the slides as a PDF to the room's files, open it and press Lecture in the viewer. Anyone the “Show documents to the room” rule allows onto the shared screen can start a lecture; only the teacher can end someone else's lecture.

A notebook with examples can stay open alongside. The format does not rule out practice: the teacher can open a single cell to the whole group or switch on Council.

Connect the projector

The Project button on the lecture bar opens the projection of this same room, /s/ID/screen, in a separate window: drag it to the projector screen, and the room stays available on your laptop. It is not a new room, just another view of the class. You can also open the projection address on another computer by signing in to the same room. Paging with / , PageUp / PageDown or a presentation clicker at the projector works only if the projection is opened as the presenter; otherwise, page from the laptop or tablet. B or the “Pause” button blanks the projection, while the presenter's page stays.

The projection is made for a big screen. It shows only the lecture page with its annotations, or a blank sheet. Until the lecture starts, the screen says: “The screen is ready. It will show the document when the teacher starts a lecture.” The notebook is never shown on the projection: to show a cell, show the room window to the audience. Check the zoom, full-screen mode (the F key on the projection) and the device's connection to the server beforehand.

Connect a tablet

During the lecture, press Console on the lecture bar (tooltip: “Open console on a tablet”) and open the link you get on the tablet. The link is valid for 10 minutes and works once. It signs in to the room as you, so do not send it to students. The room's regular console address is /s/ID/pult, but on its own it does not grant teacher rights.

The console has a pen, highlighter, eraser and pointer. You can add a blank sheet for a formula or a diagram. The group sees your handwritten annotations; speaker notes stay with the teacher.

How students follow the lecture

Students see the slides and annotations in their own browser. They can leave the current page, go back to an earlier one, finish reading and then catch up with the lecture. The “Show documents to the room” rule controls the shared screen; it does not stop anyone from viewing documents on their own.

Materials after the lecture

When the class ends, the room stays open for reading. Handwritten annotations live only in server memory: the “End” button on the lecture bar, a server restart or a server update erases them for good. Speaker notes are saved page by page for each document. Publishing creates a separate page with the notebook versions and outputs you choose, but it does not carry over the room's files, the PDF or the annotations. If you need to hand out the PDF, share it separately.

Before the next lecture, make sure the right room is open on every device. If the tablet has lost its rights, sign in with a new console link; do not share your admin sign-in link to restore access.
